Rajinikanth Says He Sent Birthday Wishes To Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Over Phone

Amid criticism from some Vijay supporters over not publicly congratulating the newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, superstar Rajinikanth clarified that he had already conveyed his wishes privately.

Addressing reporters, the 75-year-old actor said he personally called TVK chief Vijay to wish him on his 52nd birthday. When asked why he had not posted a greeting on social media, Rajinikanth responded, "I already wished him through the call."

Rajinikanth has frequently been the target of criticism from sections of Vijay's fan base on social media. Earlier, speculation had surfaced that the actor was attempting to facilitate talks between the DMK and AIADMK after TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the state. Rajinikanth later dismissed the reports, clarifying that his meeting with former Chief Minister Stalin was merely a courtesy visit.

Meanwhile, speaking at the launch event of his upcoming film Dharman, previously referred to as Thalaivar 173, Rajinikanth appeared to address his critics with a touch of humour.

"Whenever I am invited to speak, I get a little nervous because whatever I say somehow becomes a problem - either for me or for someone else," he remarked. "If I remain silent, people ask why I'm not speaking. If I speak, they question why I chose to speak. Some even feel I shouldn't speak at all."

Reflecting on years of public scrutiny, the actor added, "I have realised that those who dislike me will continue to do so regardless of what I say or do. At the same time, it is unreasonable to expect those who like me to agree with everything I say. That is why one has to be careful."
