Morocco: Women arrested for wearing dresses, may face 2 years in prison
Rabat, July 7: Two hairdressers aged 23 and 29 in Morocco have found support from many lawyers who are willing to defend the duo's case.
The duo were accused of gross indecency for wearing dresses considered to be provocative. The women were arrested in mid-June while they were walking through a market in dresses..
The women were charged with indecent exposure for which they could face prison for two years.
Meanwhile, over 500 lawyers registered to represent the women. Some lawyers feel that this case could be the opportunity for the country to amend its laws keeping in mind human rights and individual freedom.
Earlier singer and actress Jennifer Lopez had sparked a controversy after she was labelled scantily dressed by the media for a concert in Rabat that was broadcast on public TV.
