Chennai Weather Today: Rain Likely To End Sizzling Heat In Tamil Nadu Capital

Chennai and its suburbs are likely to finally get relief from heat as rains are expected to lash in the Tamil Nadu capital on Friday.

Weather blogger R Pradeep John, who is popularly known as Tamil Nadu Weatherman, said in a post: "KTCC (Chennai & Surrounding Districts) and North TN districts later today (see image) after terrible hot sizzling days. Never waited so badly to say this."

Another blogger Chennai Rains said that a cloudy start to the day over places like Chennai indicative of the gradual retreat of dry weather conditions over Peninsular India. The weather tracker stated, "Moisture is returning under the influence of the well-marked low over North West Bay of Bengal. This is likely to set the stage for thunderstorm activity over North Tamil Nadu later today evening."

Further, the blogger stated that the chance for thunderstorms improves drastically though it may not rain daily over places like Chennai and suburbs and he has predicted that there is a possibility of reduction in heat from today.

The maximum temperatures may be around 37-38°C and minimum temperatures around 27°C, according to Indian Meteorological Center. The weather agency had predicted that the maximum temperatures may remain 2-4°C above normal at isolated places before easing over the weekend.

The IMD has stated that moderate rains are likely over western ghat districts. "Day temperatures may drop the day after a rain spell. It will rise again before the next spell. We can expect some rainfall every other day," The Times of India quoted an IMD official as saying.

Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted another active phase of the southwest monsoon over large parts of the country as heavy rains are expected to lash in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh in over the next several days.
