ISIS militants blow up Tomb of Jonah in Mosul, Iraq

Mosul, July 26:

militants on Thursday destroyed the Tomb of Jonah, a holy site said to be the burial place of Prophet Jonah.

According to Islamic and Judeo- Christian traditions the Prophet is believed to be swallowed by a whale or a fish.

Officials in Mosul said that ISIS militants had planted explosives around the mosque containing the tomb and blew it up on Thursday.

This is however not the first time the ISIS militants have blown up shrines, they have been on a rampage and destroy anything they claim as unIslamic.

ISIS is waging war against the Iraqi government and has taken over many cities in Iraq.

The tomb of Jonah was a popular pilgrimage place and had many visitors from across the world.

Many Christians living in Iraq have fled fearing their lives after militants issued an ultimatum to the Iraqi Christians living there asking them to either convert to Islam, pay fine or face death.
