Iran-Israel Conflict: Airspace Shut In Three Countries Amid Threat Of Escalating Wars In Middle East

Israeli missiles struck Iranian military bases in Tehran and other cities earlier today, marking a direct response to Iran's October 1 assault, which saw over 200 rockets and ballistic missiles launched at Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah's chief, Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran reported that the early morning strikes "caused limited damage", while Israel stated it now has "wider freedom" in the skies over Iran.

Following the strikes, airspace over Iran, Syria, and Iraq was locked down entirely. FlightRadar24, an open-source flight tracking site, showed no aircraft in the skies above the three nations. However, Iran has announced a resumption of flights post-attack.

Syria reported Israeli airstrikes launched from the occupied Golan Heights and Lebanon, targeting Damascus. In response, Syria activated its air defence systems. Syria remains a part of the Iran-led 'Axis of Resistance' coalition, a group of Shia militias and political groups opposed to Israel and the US presence in the region.

Iraq, aiming to ensure the safety of civil aviation, also locked down its airspace following the strikes, citing standard security procedures to prevent enemy aircraft intrusion and streamline air defence operations.

In response, Iran stated it is ready to retaliate against the "act of aggression." The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, citing sources: "There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportional reaction for any action it takes."

The Israeli military has warned that Iran will "pay a heavy price" if further escalation ensues.

Meanwhile, the United States confirmed it had been informed of the strikes beforehand, though no American personnel or assets were involved. Sean Savett, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, described Israel's actions as "an exercise of self-defence in response to Iran's ballistic missile attack against Israel."

"We urge Iran to cease its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of fighting can end without further escalation," said Savett.
