Sonam Wangchuk To End Hunger Strike Only If... What Are His Two Demands To The Centre?

In one of the biggest relief Sonam's wife Gitanjali gave a big statement on Sunday that Sonam Wangchuk is ready to end his 22 days long fast only if his two conditions are fulfilled.

This big statement came after the Delhi High court refused permission to shift Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital in Gurugram.

Two Conditions To End Hunger Strike

According to the Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk is ready to end his fast on Monday if the political leaders fulfill two assurances.

The first condition is that the political leaders should meet him personally and have a dialogue.

The second is that the government should assure Sonam that the issue of accountability in the education system, including alleged examination irregularities, will be raised in Parliament during the Monsoon Session.

Delhi High Court Declines Hospital Transfer

Sonam's family in their petition urged to transfer Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, but the Delhi High Court refused it. Justice Mini Pushkarna observed that no interim relief was required at this stage.

The Bench said that the authorities were within their rights to move Wangchuk to the Government hospital based on the medical condition. The High Court also observed that the government's decision could not be considered arbitrary at this stage and did not appear to violate his personal liberty.

Centre Says Shift Was Needed To Protect His Health

The Central government defended its decision of taking Sonam to the hospital in the High Court, saying that his health had deteriorated due to a prolonged hunger strike.
However the Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk's vital signs are currently stable but they require regular monitoring.

Wangchuk Appeals To Supporters

In an appeal message to the protesters and his supporters - Sonam Wangchuk issued a statement where he urged people to participate peacefully in the Proposed Parliament march.
