Ghulam Nabi Azad Admitted to Hospital While on Gulf Delegation Tour
Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former Union Minister, is currently in hospital under medical care. This was confirmed by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, who is leading an all-party delegation to the Gulf region. Panda shared this update on Tuesday, stating that Azad is stable and undergoing tests and procedures.

Azad and Panda are part of one of seven multi-party delegations. These groups have been assigned to visit 33 global capitals. Their mission is to engage with the international community regarding Pakistan's actions and India's counter-terrorism measures, especially after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 deaths.
Delegation's Gulf Tour
The delegation began its tour in Bahrain on May 23 and continued to Kuwait on May 25. Azad actively participated in discussions with leaders in both countries. However, due to health issues caused by extreme heat in Kuwait, Azad had to be hospitalized. Despite this setback, he expressed gratitude for the concern shown towards him.
Panda expressed disappointment over Azad's absence from upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia and Algeria. "We will deeply miss his presence in Saudi Arabia and Algeria," Panda stated as he arrived in Saudi Arabia with the delegation on Tuesday.
Delegation Members and Objectives
The delegation includes several members such as Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma from BJP, Asaduddin Owaisi from AIMIM, Satnam Sandhu (nominated), and former foreign secretary Harsh Shringla. They aim to engage with political dignitaries, government officials, thought leaders, and the Indian community during their visit to Saudi Arabia.
Azad shared an update on X about his health condition. He said, "Blessed to share that despite the extreme heat in Kuwait affecting my health, by God’s grace I’m doing fine and recovering well. All test results are normal. Thank you all for your concern and prayers — it truly means a lot!"
Background of Recent Events
India conducted precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 under Operation Sindoor. Following these strikes, Pakistan attempted retaliatory attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. India responded firmly to these actions by Pakistan.
Azad's contributions during meetings in Bahrain and Kuwait were significant. His absence due to health issues is felt deeply by the delegation as they continue their mission without him.
The delegation's efforts are part of a broader strategy to address international concerns about terrorism originating from Pakistan. By engaging with global leaders, India seeks to strengthen its position against terrorism while fostering international support.
