The charges against Britton are severe, including rape, torture, and the death of numerous dogs. If convicted, he could face up to 249 years in prison.

During the latest hearing, NT Supreme Court Judge Michael Grant asked staff and animal rights activists to leave the room due to the disturbing and graphic nature of the material.

According to ABC, Britton's acts included torturing and killing dogs at his residence in Darwin. He even recorded these cruel acts. The report mentioned that he had a "torture room," which was a shipping container where he sexually assaulted the dogs.

Judge Grant described Britton's actions as "grotesque cruelty to animals."

He expressed concern about the psychological impact of the material on those present in court.

"In my assessment, the material has the potential to cause nervous shock or some other psychological disturbance," he said.

Britton's lawyer argued for a reduced sentence by presenting a report on Britton's mental state. The report highlighted that Britton had undergone nearly 30 hours of psychological treatment while in prison. His lawyer highlighted that remorse and insight into his actions could evolve with treatment.

"Remorse is considered evidence of rehabilitative prospects, as is insight," said Britton's lawyer. "Those are things that may not be present the first time that someone speaks to someone in a professional capacity. They are things that often evolve with treatment."

The lawyer also pointed out that Britton had been suffering from a condition since early childhood.

This condition is highly taboo in most societies, making it difficult for him to manage into adulthood.

"This is a human being who has been afflicted by a condition since very early childhood … It is not his fault," added the lawyer.

The court will consider this new information when it reconvenes in August. The outcome remains uncertain as both sides await further proceedings.
