Barron Trump witnessed an assault during a video call and reported it to London police. His actions contributed to the conviction of Matvei Rumiantsev for the crime.

During a late-night FaceTime call, Trump was surprised when a shirtless man answered instead of the woman he expected. "This view lasted maybe one second and I was racing with adrenaline," Trump told police. "The camera was then flipped to the victim getting hit while crying, stating something in Russian." The call ended quickly, prompting Trump to contact London police.

Police Response and Investigation

Trump's call to the police was recorded, capturing his urgent plea for help as the dispatcher asked for details about the victim. "How do you know her?" the operator asked after a back-and-forth dialog. "I don't think these details matter, she's getting beat up," Trump said. "Can you stop being rude and actually answer my questions?" the dispatcher said. If you want to help the person, you'll answer my questions clearly and precisely, thank you. So how do you know her?"

On January 18, police arrested Rumiantsev, a 22-year-old receptionist living in London. He faced charges of rape and choking on the night of Trump's call and additional allegations from November 2024. However, he was acquitted of these charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Trial and Testimonies

Rumiantsev testified that he felt jealous of Trump's relationship with his girlfriend but also pitied him, believing she was misleading him. Defence lawyer Sasha Wass questioned how much Trump could have seen in five to seven seconds of video. Wass argued that the woman used her connection with Trump to provoke jealousy in her boyfriend in what she described as a "relationship full of dramas."

Barron Trump did not testify during the trial. Justice Bennathan instructed jurors to approach Trump's accounts with caution since he wasn't cross-examined. "If he had done so, no doubt, he could have been asked about things such as whether he ever got a good view of what happened, whether he actually saw the woman being assaulted, or jumped to this conclusion on the basis of her screams," Bennathan said. "He might also have been asked whether his perception was biased because he was close friends with her."

Conviction and Sentencing

Rumiantsev was found guilty of perverting the course of justice for sending a letter from jail asking the woman to withdraw her accusations. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 27.
