Bangladesh: Protests Erupt As Hindus Seek End To Violence, Yunus Offers Reassurance
After Sheikh Hasina's resignation as prime minister and her subsequent departure to India, massive protests erupted across Bangladesh, with lakhs of Hindus taking to the streets in response to ongoing attacks on their community.
The capital, Dhaka, and the second-largest city, Chittagong, witnessed large-scale rallies on Saturday, drawing major attention.

Since the fall of the Hasina-led government on August 5, minority communities in Bangladesh have faced over 205 incidents of violence across 52 districts.
The attacks have left hundreds of Hindus injured, with homes and businesses targeted. Several Hindu temples have been vandalized, and at least two Hindu leaders affiliated with the Awami League have been killed.
In response to the violence, thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus have been attempting to flee to neighboring India.
The Hindu demonstrators in Dhaka, demanding protection for minorities, blocked traffic at Shahbagh for over three hours, calling for special tribunals to expedite trials against those persecuting minorities, a 10% parliamentary seat allocation for minorities, and the enactment of a minority protection law.
Thousands of Muslims, including students, joined these protests in solidarity.
Chittagong also saw a massive gathering at the historic Cheragi Pahar Square, with reports suggesting that over seven lakh people attended the rally. Similar demonstrations were held in the US and the UK.
Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, condemned the attacks on minorities, calling them "heinous."
Yunus, a Nobel laureate, urged the students leading the protests to protect all Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist families from harm, emphasizing national unity.
"Are they not the people of this country? You have been able to save the country; can't you save some families?... You must say - no one can harm them. They are my brothers; we fought together, and we will stay together," he stated.
