Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has voiced his displeasure over the Centre's alleged disregard for the state's recommendations for the Padma Awards. According to official sources, he is considering addressing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this issue. During a meeting with ministers and officials, Reddy described this oversight as an affront to the people of Telangana.

Telangana CM Critiques Centre on Padma Awards

The state government had put forward several names for the prestigious awards. These included folk singer and balladeer Gaddar for Padma Vibhushan, educationist Chukka Ramaiah for Padma Bhushan, poet Ande Sri for Padma Bhushan, poet and singer Gorati Venkanna for Padma Shri, and poet and historian Jayadheer Tirumala Rao for Padma Shri. However, none were selected by the Centre.

Padma Awards Controversy

Reddy expressed deep dissatisfaction that Telangana did not receive even five awards, despite 139 individuals being honoured nationwide. He sees this as a slight against the state's four crore residents. The chief minister is contemplating writing to PM Modi to highlight what he perceives as an injustice in the award selection process.

Despite his grievances, Reddy extended congratulations to those from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who were honoured with Padma Awards. Among the recipients were actor Balakrishna, medical doctor Nageshwar Reddy, and Manda Krishna Madiga. He acknowledged their achievements as a testament to their hard work and dedication.

In an official statement, Reddy reiterated his congratulations to the awardees. He emphasised that their recognition is well-deserved and reflects their significant contributions in their respective fields. The chief minister's comments underline the importance of acknowledging local talent and contributions at a national level.
