Surya Grahan 2025: First Solar Eclipse of the Year to Occur on This Date
The year 2025 is set to witness four major celestial events-two solar eclipses (Surya Grahan) and two lunar eclipses (Chandra Grahan). The first solar eclipse of the year, a deep partial eclipse, will occur on March 29, 2025. However, this event will not be visible in India.
What to Expect from the First Solar Eclipse of 2025?

The March 29 solar eclipse will be a partial one, meaning the Moon will cover only a portion of the Sun's surface. According to astronomers, the Moon's central shadow will not touch the Earth, which means there will be no total eclipse.
While most of Europe will witness a partial solar eclipse, India will miss out on this celestial event. The phenomenon will be visible across parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.
When Will the Eclipse Begin?
As per NASA, the partial solar eclipse on March 29 will begin at:
- 4:50 AM EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)
- 8:43 AM GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)
What is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on our planet. This alignment happens only during the new moon phase, making it a fascinating event for sky-watchers.
In 2025, the Earth will witness two solar eclipses, both of which will be partial eclipses. The second solar eclipse of the year is expected to take place later in September 2025.
