Punjab Police Organises Workshop on Article 21 of the Indian Constitution to Uphold Fundamental Rights
The Punjab Police conducted a workshop on Friday, focusing on Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The session highlighted court rulings, including those from the Supreme Court. Article 21 ensures protection of life and personal liberty, stating that no one shall be deprived of these except by lawful procedure.

Dr. Balram Gupta, a former Director of the National Judicial Academy, delivered a key address. His speech centred on the expanded interpretation of Article 21. Dr. Gupta stressed the importance of safeguarding fundamental rights, especially in policing contexts.
Focus on Fundamental Rights
Dr. Gupta highlighted that police officers have a constitutional duty to uphold individual rights as outlined in the constitution and other laws. This responsibility is crucial for maintaining justice and fairness in society.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav expressed commitment to ongoing training. He stated that similar workshops will continue to ensure officers are well-prepared to perform their duties impartially and humanely.
Engagement of Senior Officers
DGP Yadav, along with Special DGP Human Resource Development and Welfare Ishwar Singh, addressed senior police officers at the event. Their participation underscored the importance of equipping law enforcement with necessary skills and knowledge.
The workshop also saw attendance from Special DGP Community Affairs Division Gurpreet Kaur Deo, Special DGP Policy and Rules SK Asthana, and Special DGP Railways Shashi Prabha Dwivedi. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort in enhancing police training.
The initiative reflects Punjab Police's dedication to upholding constitutional values through continuous education and skill development for its officers.
