Punjab Police Constable Amandeep Singh Murdered by Unidentified Assailants in Patiala Incident

A police constable was reportedly killed with sharp weapons by unknown attackers near Mehas Gate in Nabha on Sunday evening, according to police. The victim, Amandeep Singh, served as a head constable at Civil Lines, Patiala, and lived in Nabha. The incident occurred around 8 pm following a dispute with some youths.

During the altercation, more individuals joined and allegedly attacked Singh and his brother with sharp weapons. Singh suffered severe injuries and later died, while his brother was critically injured and admitted to the Civil Hospital in Nabha. Officials confirmed these details.

Investigation and Response

Kotwali Police Station in-charge, Saurav Sabharwal, stated, "We received preliminary information that following an argument with some youths, police constable Amandeep Singh was attacked and killed, while his brother was seriously injured." He noted that Singh's brother is currently unable to provide a statement.

The police have secured the area and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify those responsible. They are actively investigating the case and working to apprehend the suspects as soon as possible.

Political Reaction

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring criticised the AAP government for the murder of the officer, accusing them of failing to maintain law and order. He expressed his concerns on social media about the safety of police personnel in Punjab.

Warring posted on X: "Even @PunjabPoliceInd personnel aren't safe anymore. A head constable was murdered in a market area in Nabha by 5-6 assailants. @INCPunjab shares condolences with the bereaved family, but this incident underscores the complete failure of law and order in the state. Who'll take responsibility? Who'll resign?"

The tragic event has raised serious questions about public safety and governance in Punjab. Authorities are under pressure to resolve the case swiftly and ensure justice for Amandeep Singh and his family.
