Uttar Pradesh Quarry Collapse Traps Several Labourers Under Rubble During Rescue Operations

A portion of a stone quarry in Uttar Pradesh collapsed, trapping several labourers. Rescue teams from NDRF and SDRF are currently on-site to locate and assist the trapped workers.

A stone quarry in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed on Sunday, trapping several workers beneath the debris. The exact number of trapped individuals remains uncertain, but estimates suggest around twelve labourers might be affected. The incident occurred at Krishna Mines in Billi Markundi village, where a wall unexpectedly gave way.

District Magistrate B N Singh confirmed that the collapse trapped workers inside the quarry. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been dispatched from Mirzapur to assist in the rescue efforts. Relief operations are currently ongoing at the site.

Rescue Operations and Official Visits

Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjeev Kumar Gond, who is also the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), visited the site with district officials. He mentioned that information from those present suggests about a dozen labourers might be trapped under the rubble. However, the exact number remains unclear.

The district magistrate, superintendent of police, and other officials are actively involved in managing the situation. Gond assured that every possible effort is being made to rescue those trapped. He emphasised that an investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances under which the mine was operating.

Support for Affected Families

Minister Gond stated that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for the incident. He expressed solidarity with the victims' families and announced that ex-gratia compensation would be provided to those affected by this tragic event.

The minister described the incident as very sad and reiterated the commitment to support those impacted. As rescue operations continue, authorities remain focused on ensuring safety and providing necessary aid to affected families.
