Police Fire Teargas to Control Mob in MP Village Land Dispute

A mob hurled stones at police and civic staff demanding the demolition of a man's house in Guna district on Tuesday. The man, Rafiq Khan, was accused of assaulting a woman and her husband over a land dispute. Police used teargas to disperse the crowd, resulting in minor injuries to some officers and damage to a fire brigade vehicle.

Teargas Used in MP Village Dispute

When civic staff arrived to demolish illegal shops owned by Rafiq Khan, locals demanded his house be razed too. The crowd then pelted stones at the police and demolition squad. Rafiq Khan had built two shops on government land, which were demolished by the administration. He and two family members were arrested for assaulting an elderly couple.

Police Action and Arrests

Police fired teargas shells and used force to control the violent mob. A team led by SDOP Vivek Asthana reached Vishnupura to clear illegal structures built by Rafiq Khan. Acting SDM Vikas Anand confirmed that tension briefly prevailed in the village but was now under control.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Sinha stated that Kripal Singh Parihar, the sub-inspector in charge of Fatehgarh police station, was removed from field duties following the incident. VHP and Bajrang Dal activists also gathered outside the police station, demanding the removal of illegal structures built by Rafiq Khan.

Land Dispute and Assault

The conflict began when an elderly woman, her husband, and their nephew attempted to remove a boundary wall from government land they claimed as theirs. Rafiq Khan's group also claimed ownership of the land. During heated arguments, Rafiq Khan and his relatives assaulted the elderly couple, an incident recorded and circulated on social media.

Both sides filed cross-FIRs against each other. In a viral video, the woman is seen falling while a man slaps her, and the elderly man is beaten with sticks. Farid Khan, Rafiq's father, claimed they had been using the land for 35 years for storage and keeping animals.

Legal Proceedings

Based on complaints from both parties, FIRs were registered against the elderly woman, her husband, their nephew, Farid Khan, Rafiq Khan, and his grandson Raju. Farid Khan and his family members were later arrested. Police are identifying stone pelters for further action.

The situation in Vishnupura has been tense but is now under control according to officials. The administration refused to demolish Rafiq Khan's house as it was legally constructed. The police continue to investigate the incident and maintain order in the village.
