Sonu Nigam

Is there a truth in the claims?
The media and people on social media mistook the singer to another person with a same name. Going by the said person's profile, he is a lawyer.

It has to be noted that the singer left Twitter in 2017.

Giving clarification on the issue, the singer told Hindustan Times: "I wonder how people, including the news channels that mistook him for me, didn't do their basic sanity check by reading the description of the account. His handle says Sonu Nigam Singh and the description says that he's a criminal lawyer from Bihar."

He added, "This is exactly the kind of nastiness that forced me to quit Twitter seven years ago. I don't believe in making any sensational political remarks and I only focus on my work. But yeh incident alarming hai, not just for me, but also my family's safety."

Sonu Nigam then said that the said user has been doing such things for a while. He continued, "I'm often inundated with screenshots of his tweets from my well-wishers. My team reached out to him and insisted he fixed his handle name and stopped pretending to be me, as millions of people are being mislead by the use of my surname. I'm sure we will find a way to fix this,"

What Advocate Sonu Singam Says?
Meanwhile, advocate Sonu Nigam has slammed he singer for calling him "impersonator" and claimed that his name has been given by his parents. He has the records to prove his claims and he is willing to amicably solve the issue.

In a post on X he stated, "The accusations against me are thus unfair and have caused me considerable distress. I have never threatened Mr. Nigam or his team, and any such claims are completely unfounded. I am simply exercising my right to use my legal and parent's given name, and I have no intention of misleading the public or capitalising on the singer's fame.
