INCREASED SECURITY IN NEW DELHI

IS THERE A PANNU THREAT CONNECTION?

The recent security breach at the Indian Parliament coincided with a threat from Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, adding an alarming layer to the incident.
Pannun, leader of the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice, had openly declared intentions to attack the Parliament around the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.
While investigations are underway to establish a direct link between Pannun's threat and the breach, the Centre has taken a cautious yet serious approach.

PANNUN THREAT ASSESSMENT

Foreign Ministry had acknowledged the gravity of such threats, expressing the delicate balance between not amplifying extremists' messages and the need to address security concerns.

Pannun, a dual citizen of the US and Canada, faced allegations of an Indian connection to a thwarted plot against him on American soil.

The White House, recognising the severity of the reported plot, engaged with Indian authorities at the highest levels, highlighting the importance of investigating the matter thoroughly.

DEC 13, 2023: WHAT HAPPENED IN PARLIAMENT TODAY

Two intruders threw smoke canisters into the Lok Sabha hall, though the incident was less severe than the 2001 attack involving a suicide squad armed with automatic assault rifles.

The Delhi police promptly detained a man and a woman near the Transport Bhawan. Protestors apprehended outside Parliament, identified as Neelam and Amol Shinde, residents of Hisar and Latur, were taken to Parliament Street Police Station for further investigation on this security breach.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This security breach serves as a stark reminder of the perpetual challenges in securing one of India's most vital institutions. The ongoing investigations will be crucial in determining the extent of any potential connection between Pannun's threats and the breach.
