Noida International Airport to Become India’s Most Uniquely Connected Airport, Linked to 5 Major Expressways

The upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is set to emerge as one of the most uniquely connected airports in the country, with direct road access planned through five major expressways and national highway corridors.

Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is being developed with extensive multi-modal connectivity, including direct links to the Yamuna, Ganga, Delhi-Mumbai, and Eastern Peripheral expressways, plus NH-34, alongside planned RRTS, Metro, and rail networks.

Once operational, the airport will be linked to the Yamuna Expressway, Ganga Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway (KGP), and NH-34, making it one of the most accessible aviation hubs in India.

The airport is already connected to the Yamuna Expressway, while work on several other strategic links is progressing rapidly. In addition to road infrastructure, the airport is also expected to be connected through RRTS, Metro, conventional railways, Namo Bharat, and even a high-speed train network, with DPRs currently under preparation.

Yamuna Expressway-KGP Link to Improve Regional Access

A major connectivity project is underway to link the Yamuna Expressway with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (KGP) near Jaganpur Afzalpur village, around 10 kilometres from the Zero Point on the Yamuna Expressway. As part of this project, eight loops with a combined length of 6.6 kilometres are being developed, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will execute the work.

Once completed, this connection will significantly benefit commuters from Ghaziabad, Hapur and Meerut, who currently have to travel up to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to access the Yamuna Expressway towards Agra. With the new link in place, travellers will be able to join the Eastern Peripheral Expressway from points such as Duhai and Dasna and then directly merge onto the Yamuna Expressway.

20-Kilometre Detour to Be Eliminated for Travellers

The new expressway connectivity is expected to reduce travel distance and time for both local commuters and long-distance passengers. People travelling from Mathura and Agra towards the National Capital Region will no longer need to take an additional 20-kilometre detour to get onto the Peripheral Expressway.

At present, there is no direct link between the two expressways, but officials expect this work to be completed within the current year. Once operational, the corridor is likely to deliver significant fuel savings and smoother traffic flow for vehicles moving between western Uttar Pradesh and the NCR.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Interchange and Cargo Link Taking Shape

To connect the airport with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, NHAI is building a 31-kilometre six-lane greenfield expressway under the Bharatmala project. Of this, the 7.3-kilometre stretch within the Jewar boundary has already been completed, while over 65 per cent of the remaining 24.1-kilometre portion in Haryana has been finished.

Separately, an 8.25-kilometre road is under construction to connect the Yamuna Expressway with the airport's air cargo terminal on the north-eastern side. This 30-metre-wide road will have an 18-metre carriageway and is expected to strengthen cargo movement and logistics operations once the airport becomes functional.

Ganga Expressway and Future Road Links to Expand Airport Reach

The airport will also be connected to the Ganga Expressway through a proposed 74.3-kilometre link expressway. This route is expected to provide direct access to passengers from 22 districts, including Moradabad, Meerut and Bulandshahr, while also improving connectivity for travellers coming from Uttarakhand.

Another major proposal aims to make travel easier between Palwal and Greater Noida. A 25-kilometre, 30-metre-wide road already exists from Gaur City Chowk in Greater Noida West to Sirsa. This stretch is planned to be extended by another 25 kilometres into the Yamuna region, with the width expanded to 120 metres. Around 812 acres of land will be acquired for the project. The proposed road will pass in front of the cargo terminal gate and eventually connect to the planned Khurja-Palwal Expressway. The proposal has already been sent to the government for approval.

Metro, Rail, Namo Bharat and Film City Transit Also Planned

The airport is not being developed as just a road-linked hub. Several multi-modal transport projects are also in the pipeline to make it a major integrated transit centre in North India.

Plans include a 61-kilometre rail line from Chola to Rundhi to connect the airport with both the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah rail corridors. In addition, Namo Bharat and Metro services are proposed from the Ghaziabad RRTS corridor to the airport via Greater Noida West and Pari Chowk. This elevated corridor is expected to feature 25 stations.

A Light Rail Transit system is also planned between the upcoming International Film City and the airport. Interestingly, this system will not require a separate track and will operate on the same alignment proposed for Namo Bharat and Metro services.

To improve direct connectivity with Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, the metro line from Aerocity to Kalindi Kunj is proposed to be extended by five kilometres, enabling smoother airport-to-airport transit in the future.

If all these projects are completed as planned, Noida International Airport in Jewar could set a new benchmark for airport connectivity in India, combining expressways, highways, metro, rail and rapid transit links in a way that very few airports in the country currently offer.
