Nitish, Mulayam's ambitions killed the third front: JD(S)
The Janata Parivar was hoping to emerge as a united force to counter Congress and the BJP.
Nitish Kumar's decision to ally with the BJP in Bihar has dealt a death blow to the idea of a third front. The Janata Dal Secular has blamed Nitish Kumar and Mulayam Singh Yadav's over ambitions for the failure of Janata Parivar.
"It is no longer an ideological fight. The fight now only seems to be for power. The third front could never materialise because of Nitish Kumar and Mulayam Singh Yadav's over aspirations. Today, the JD(U) is a broken house. Once they join hands with the BJP, their support or the lack of it won't matter to us anymore," said Tanveer Ahmed, spokesperson of the JD(S).

In 2015, Janata Parivar was inching closer to becoming a reality when Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Indian National Lok Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) announced that they would merge into a new national Janata Parivar alliance in order to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party. The alliance first suffered a setback ahead of the Bihar elections when Samajwadi Party pulled back citing differences with JDU over seat sharing.

With Nitish Kumar joining hands with the BJP, it is practically the end of Janata Parivar. Former Prime Minister H D Devegowda had called a meeting of leaders of RJD, SP, JDU, TMC to forge an alliance but the same never fructified. "The central government has come up with a policy that forces people to succumb to pressure. Arm twisting methods are being used. BJP is using it on the TMC, AIADMK and even the TDP. The third front was supposed to be an ideological fight but now it makes no sense," the JD(S) spokesperson said.
