Next President of India: Is Sharad Pawar now in the race?

Both L K Advani and Mohan Bhagwat have said that they are not in the presidential race.

It would neither L K Advani nor Mohan Bhagwat who would be the next President of India. Both have ruled themselves out of the race. For sometime the name of actor, Amitabh Bachchan was doing the rounds, but his name too had been dropped after the Panama Papers scandal.

The BJP has still not decided on who to appoint as the next President of India. After the Parliament session, the BJP leaders would meet in Bhubhaneshwar and decide on who its candidate would be. The BJP can appoint a candidate of its choice although it is falling short of 25,000 votes in the electoral college.

There has been speculation galore that Sharad Pawar may be in the race for President. However several sources in the BJP that OneIndia spoke with said that it is a rare possibility. The BJP will spring a surprise candidate. BJP sources say that there is no need for a consensus candidate and it can chose a candidate on its own despite falling short by 25,000 votes.

For the BJP to elect a candidate of its choice, it would however need the support of either the AIADMK or the BJD. The AIADMK in all possibility would support the BJP in the electoral college. The BJP is also confident that it can garner the support of the BJP to elect a President of its choice.
