Modi Govt's Big Push To Defence, Torpedoes, Mid-Air Refueling Aircraft Worth Rs 84,560 Cr Added To Cart
India has given the go-ahead for several big defense plans worth Rs. 84,560 crore. The aim is to strengthen the military and boost self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
These plans include buying more mid-air refuellers, aircraft for maritime operations, heavy-weight torpedoes, and new anti-tank mines.

The decision was made by the Defence Acquisition Council, led by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. They want to emphasize buying from Indian vendors to support the country's self-reliance drive.
One important decision is to purchase six mid-air refuellers to extend the reach of the Indian Air Force. Also, they approved buying 15 new aircraft for maritime operations, which will be crucial for the Navy and Coast Guard.
The council also cleared the purchase of anti-armor munition systems to boost the ability to engage targets beyond the line of sight.
These decisions show India's commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and promoting domestic manufacturing. It's part of efforts to become more self-reliant in defense.
"In order to enhance the operational efficiency and domination in the Tactical Battle Area for engaging targets that are Beyond Visual Line of Sight by the Mechanised Forces, the AoN (Acceptance of Necessity) under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category has been accorded for procurement of Canister Launched Anti-Armour Loiter Munition System," the ministry said in the release.
"Further, to strengthen the Air Defence Systems, especially the capabilities to detect slow, small and low-flying targets as well as surveillance, detection and tracking of different targets, the AoN has been accorded for procurement of Air Defence Tactical Control Radar under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category," the ministry statement further reads.
