Meerut shocker: Army jawan beaten to death by eve-teasers, Indian army pays tribute to martyr

Meerut, Aug 17: Uttar Pradesh is notoriously-known for crimes against women.

On Thursday, Aug 13, an army soldier was beaten to death by six goons, who were involved in eve-teasing and molestation of a girl. The shocking incident happened around 6.30 pm at Rohta road near the cantonment area in Meerut.

Over 50 onlookers witnessed the crime

31-year-old Lance Naik Ved Mitra Chaudhary, a resident of Gopal Nagar, had gone to a milk booth to buy milk in Hardev Nagar. When he saw some youths teasing the daughter of the booth owner The jawan came to the girl's rescue and even beat up one of the eve-teasers -Akash Saini.

Enraged, Akash called his friends, who arrived at the spot armed with sticks.

Chaudhary, who sustained grievous injuries, breathed his last at an army hospital.

Witnesses said that Chadhary was beaten with iron rods and hockey sticks and the attackers, then, fled from the spot.

Shockingly, over 50 onlookers witnessed the crime, but did not dare to utter a word.

Reports claim that Chaudhary was posted in 416 Engineering Brigade Camp in Meerut. He had shifted to Meerut in January this year. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Police officials, who are investigating the case said that they have arrested three persons- Akash, Sanju and Ritesh. in connection with the case and search is going on to find other accused.

Talking about the incident, Sub-Area Colonel Rajiv Kumar said, Chaudhury fulfilled the duty of an Indian citizen and protected a girl's honour. He will be remembered as martyr.

His last rites will be performed in his native village Titoli in Shamli district.

Girl decides to become civil servant

Meanwhile, the girl, who was eve-teased, said the miscreants were teasing her from last six days and out of fear, she didn't tell the incident to anyone in her family.

According to a report, the girl has decided to become a civil servant, so that she can punish such culprits in future.

Indian Army pays tribute to the Martyr

On Facebook, the Indian army paid cindolences, while saying, "Gen Dalbir Singh,COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army express heartfelt condolences to the grief stricken family of Sapper Ved Mitra Choudhary, who laid down his life protecting the honour of a girl in Meerut. We pray to the almighty to give the family courage and strength to bear the irreparable loss."
