Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Clarifies Stance on Personal Worship Amid Song Controversy
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed a controversy on Wednesday regarding a proposed song by some government employees that praised him. He stated he does not support personal adulation and believes no one can gain anything from him through such means. This was in response to a question about a song planned to be sung by 100 women employees from the state Secretariat during an event on Thursday.

The song, which portrays CM Vijayan as a phoenix and a leader in battle, was composed for an event organised by a CPI M-affiliated employee association. The Chief Minister is set to inaugurate this event. The issue gained attention after the song's recording was aired on local TV channels. Vijayan mentioned he had not yet heard the song.
Media Reaction and Criticism
Vijayan took a jab at media personnel, suggesting they might not appreciate anyone praising him while they attempt to demean him. "I am not a person who stands for personal worship," he reiterated. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan criticised Vijayan, likening him to ancient kings who relished flattery from jesters.
Satheesan remarked, "Our CM is also enjoying the eulogy, just like kings enjoyed it while sitting on their thrones. Otherwise, wouldn't he direct them to stop it?" This comment was made during an interaction with reporters in New Delhi. The controversy echoes a similar incident three years ago when a large dance performance lauding Vijayan at a party event also sparked debate.
The Chief Minister's stance against personal glorification remains firm despite the ongoing discussions. The upcoming event and its associated song continue to be points of contention among political circles and the public.
