Jammu Region Achieves 95% Power Supply Restoration Following Severe Windstorm
High-speed winds exceeding 100 km/h, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, wreaked havoc in the Jammu region. This severe weather event disrupted daily life and caused significant damage to the power infrastructure. In response, authorities have restored 95% of the power supply as teams worked tirelessly to repair the damage.

The Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) swiftly initiated a restoration drive following the storm. The Managing Director (MD) of JPDCL led this effort, ensuring that teams worked around the clock to address the power disruptions. A spokesperson for JPDCL confirmed these efforts.
Restoration Efforts and Coordination
Immediately after the storm, the MD conducted a comprehensive assessment of the damage. The chief engineer and other officials were instructed to commence urgent restoration work in all affected areas. Significant disruptions, such as tripped circuits and technical issues at key grid stations, were reported.
Coordination with the deputy commissioner of Jammu was crucial for clearing fallen trees that obstructed repair efforts. Field teams were deployed to patrol and repair lines wherever possible without waiting for full system recovery, according to the spokesperson.
Progress and Achievements
By midnight, multiple grid stations and major transmission lines were restored. By 7 pm the following day, 93% of 11 kV feeders and 96.49% of 33 kV feeders were operational again. This contributed to an overall restoration rate exceeding 95% across the Jammu region.
The power load for Jammu province was recorded at 190 MW at 1 pm, increased to 948 MW around 6 pm, and reached 1000 MW by 7 pm. Efforts are ongoing to fully restore power in remaining areas.
Commitment to Complete Restoration
The MD emphasized their commitment to expedite remaining repairs to minimize inconvenience. JPDCL is dedicated to restoring normalcy quickly and appreciates public patience and cooperation during this challenging time.
The spokesperson noted that field teams were instructed to provide regular updates through local channels. This ensured transparency and kept residents informed about progress in restoring power supply.
Efforts continue as JPDCL aims to fully restore power in all affected areas. The dedication of field teams working tirelessly has been instrumental in achieving significant progress in a short time.
