India-China Ties Improve: EAM Jaishankar Highlights Key Developments In Lok Sabha
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, addressing the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session on Tuesday, highlighted recent improvements in India-China relations, crediting ongoing diplomatic and military engagements for resolving key border issues.
He acknowledged that ties between the two nations have been "abnormal" since 2020 due to disruptions in peace and stability caused by Chinese actions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as reported by Hindustan Times.

"It is to the credit of our forces that, despite logistical challenges and the pandemic, they countered Chinese troops rapidly and effectively," Jaishankar said.
Progress in Border Talks
Jaishankar detailed significant progress made during recent military and diplomatic dialogues, including the October patrolling agreement that addressed areas along the LAC.
"With the disengagement phase fully achieved, our immediate priority is de-escalation and ensuring the effective management of activities in border areas. This will allow us to focus on other facets of our bilateral relationship," he explained.
The external affairs minister noted that despite sustained tension and troop amassments at the LAC, India's steadfast approach ensured that national security interests were upheld, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Framework for Resolution
Highlighting the path forward, Jaishankar shared updates from his recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where they agreed to convene special representatives and foreign secretary-level mechanisms.
"India remains committed to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary issue through bilateral talks," he asserted.
He outlined three key principles for managing border areas effectively:
- Maintaining peace and stability along the LAC.
- Prioritizing de-escalation efforts to reduce troop amassments.
- Ensuring robust mechanisms to address border-related challenges.
Renewed Diplomatic Engagements
Jaishankar emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagements in steering relations towards normalcy. He reiterated India's commitment to achieving a comprehensive resolution that aligns with its national interests and fosters mutual understanding between the two countries.
The minister concluded by affirming the government's resolve to uphold sovereignty while working towards long-term stability in India-China relations.
