According to a media report, this year witnessed an increase in the number of participants in the laddu auction, with five newcomers, including people from outside the local area. The auction was opened only to 25 successful bidders since its inception.
Last year, a nearby farmer named Vangeti Lakshma Reddy bought the laddu at an auction for 24.60 lakh rupees, surpassing the previous year's bid by 5.70 lakh rupees. This year, the expectation is high as the laddu is predicted to fetch a record-breaking price.
The practice of selling the Ganesh laddu at an auction started in 1994 when it was bought by a local farmer, Kolan Mohan Reddy, for only 450 rupees. He then shared the prasadam laddu with his relatives and other villagers and scattered some in his fields. When his harvest notably improved, it instilled a belief that the laddu brings benefits of well-being, wealth, and success.
