AAP Alleges Scam in Delhi Housing for Poor Scheme, Claims DDA Sold Units to Ineligible Individuals
Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has raised allegations of corruption in a housing scheme for the underprivileged. He claimed that housing units intended for slum residents were sold to those not eligible. Bharadwaj suggested that such misconduct could not occur without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor and the Central Government's Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

In response, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused Bharadwaj of spreading false information against central agencies. The DDA also refuted the claims, stating that no ineligible individuals received flats in the Kalkaji Slum Rehabilitation project. They assured that their technology-enabled systems prevent any fraudulent allotments or sales.
Accusations and Denials
The DDA mentioned that an initial investigation pointed to black marketers linked to a specific political party. These individuals allegedly aimed to tarnish the DDA's reputation and its successful Slum Rehabilitation scheme. The agency plans to involve the police and may seek legal action if necessary.
Bharadwaj further criticised the BJP, claiming they oppose initiatives benefiting the poor. He cited instances where BJP resisted free electricity and water provisions. He alleged that flats meant for impoverished individuals are being illicitly sold to others.
Call for Independent Investigation
The AAP leader demanded an independent probe by a sitting judge from either the High Court or Supreme Court. He expressed concerns that investigations by agencies like ACB or CBI might be biased due to their ties with the LG and Central Government. Bharadwaj emphasised the need for transparency in this inquiry.
Sachdeva countered by questioning why 40,000 flats built under the Rajiv Awas Yojana during Sheila Dikshit's tenure were neglected by Arvind Kejriwal's government. He also challenged Bharadwaj to disclose how many houses have been allocated by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board over the past decade.
Political Tensions
Bharadwaj reiterated his stance, stating, "The BJP is always troubled by the poor and stands against them. When free electricity and water were given, the BJP opposed it. Now these flats, which were meant for the poor, are being given in black to other people." His comments highlight ongoing political tensions between AAP and BJP over welfare schemes.
The controversy surrounding these allegations continues to unfold as both parties defend their positions. The demand for an impartial investigation remains central to resolving these accusations and ensuring accountability within housing schemes.
