Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Delegation Condemns Haldwani Police Action
A delegation from Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind visited Haldwani to assess the situation after the police action against protestors. They allege religious discrimination and demand an impartial investigation into the incident.
A delegation of representatives from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind visited Haldwani on Sunday, expressing concern over the alleged discrimination against protestors on the basis of religion in various parts of the country.

Condemnation of Haldwani Police Action
Maulana Arshad Madani, who heads a faction of the Jamiat, strongly condemned the police action in Haldwani. He highlighted the disturbing report presented by the delegation that visited the affected areas, revealing instances of excessive force, including breaking doors and forcibly entering houses during arrests.
Demand for Fair Investigation
Madani emphasized the need for a fair investigation into the entire incident, asserting that local people protesting against the administration is not a crime. He pointed out that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to protest, and the use of lathi charge and firing by the police to suppress peaceful protests is unacceptable.
Allegations of Discrimination
Madani raised concerns about the alleged discrimination against Muslim protestors, stating that the police seem to act differently in cases involving non-Muslims. He condemned the discrimination on the basis of religion and called for an end to the nefarious series of arrests.
Letter to Uttarakhand DGP
The Jamiat delegation has written a letter to the Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP), demanding immediate attention to the situation in Haldwani. They have urged the DGP to stop the abuses committed by the police against innocent citizens and to halt the ongoing series of arrests.
Concerns Raised by Maulana Mahmood Madani
Maulana Mahmood Madani, who heads the other faction of the Jamiat, has also expressed profound concern over the situation in Haldwani. He has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning the haste in carrying out the demolition of an illegal madrassa and emphasizing the need for a lasting solution to demolitions, especially those involving religious places.
Magisterial Probe Ordered
In response to the recent violence in Haldwani, a magisterial probe has been ordered into the February 8 riots that followed the demolition of the madrassa. While curfew has been lifted from the outer areas of the town, it remains in force in Banbhoolpura, the epicenter of the mob violence. Six rioters were killed and 60 people were injured in the violence.
