Delhi Assembly to Implement Solar Power System for Energy Self-Reliance

Officials have announced plans to transform the Delhi Assembly into the nation's first legislature powered entirely by solar energy. Speaker Vijender Gupta led a meeting on Wednesday to finalise this initiative. The meeting included representatives from the Public Works Department and the Assembly. A drone survey was conducted to identify optimal rooftop locations for solar panel installation.

Delhi Assembly Goes Solar for Energy Savings

Solar Power System and Installation

The project involves installing a 500 KW rooftop solar power system, replacing the current 200 KW setup. The installation is expected to be completed within 60 days after issuing the letter of award (LoA). This new system is designed to not only meet the Assembly's power requirements but also generate an additional 10% surplus electricity.

The transition to solar energy is anticipated to significantly reduce electricity expenses, with an estimated monthly saving of Rs 15 lakh. This move aligns with broader efforts to lower government energy costs. Gupta emphasised that this initiative will give the Assembly a distinct identity and inspire other legislative bodies to adopt clean energy practices.

Commitment to Sustainability

Gupta highlighted the broader vision of moving towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He stated, "The Delhi Assembly is committed to energy conservation and protecting the environment through solar energy." He urged officials to start work on the project immediately and ensure that the tender is issued by next week.

The project also aims to raise public awareness about green energy, encouraging citizens to adopt sustainable power solutions. By switching to solar power, the Delhi Assembly is taking a significant step towards self-reliance in energy.

In conclusion, this initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also sets a precedent for other legislative bodies in India. The successful implementation of this project could serve as a model for promoting renewable energy across various sectors.
