Uttar Pradesh Transport Department Intensifies Crackdown on Unauthorized E-Rickshaws Across Districts

The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department is conducting a month-long campaign against unauthorised e-rickshaws. As of now, 18,816 challans have been issued. Transport Commissioner Brijesh Narayan Singh reviewed the campaign's progress on its 16th day. The review aimed to assess district performance in removing unregistered e-rickshaws and autos to improve traffic management.

Uttar Pradeshs E-Rickshaw Crackdown Continues

Additional Transport Commissioner Enforcement Sanjay Singh, who oversees the campaign, stated that it has been ongoing since April 1 following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive. The initiative is also monitored at the state level. Districts showing minimal action have received show-cause notices for their lack of progress.

Focus on Traffic Management

The campaign's primary goal is to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety. It is conducted under the joint supervision of the Transport Department, district administration, and police authorities. The chief minister had instructed that this special drive be carried out from April 1 to 30.

During the first 16 days, 18,816 challans were issued, and 2,316 unregistered e-rickshaws were fined. Additionally, 6,662 e-rickshaws were seized during this period. The campaign aims to remove unauthorised vehicles from roads to enhance traffic conditions.

District Performance Evaluation

A list of best-performing and least-performing districts was compiled based on their contributions to the campaign. Districts with slow progress have been asked to explain the delay in their actions. Show-cause notices were sent to transport officers in several districts including Amroha, Kasganj, Muzaffarnagar, and others.

Sanjay Singh emphasised that transport officials in districts with slow campaign progress have been issued show-cause notices. These notices demand explanations for delays in implementing the campaign effectively.

The ongoing operations are crucial for better traffic management and public safety. The campaign continues to be a priority for the state government, ensuring that unauthorised e-rickshaws are removed from roads efficiently.
