Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes UP Govt's Mahakumbh Preparations, Offers Assistance
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has offered his assistance to the Uttar Pradesh government for the upcoming Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, raising concerns about what he describes as 'mismanagement' and inadequate security measures.
In a recent social media post, he shared a video addressing these issues, suggesting that his party could contribute positively to the event's organization. Yadav's critique highlights a delay in the necessary security arrangements and a disregard for the local population's needs, suggesting an urgency for the state government to rectify these shortcomings.

Yadav's comments come amid preparations for the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, scheduled to start on January 13 and conclude on February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivratri. This event, which occurs every 12 years, is a significant occasion in Hinduism, drawing millions of devotees. Despite its importance, Yadav claims the current administration, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has fallen short in its organizational duties, notably in security and addressing local concerns.
Accusations of Government Negligence
He specifically pointed out the removal of a statue as an example of the government's misplaced priorities, contrasting it with the alleged slow pace of administrative preparations for the Mahakumbh. "The aggrieved people of Prayagraj are asking that the BJP government was very prompt in removing the statue of 'Mahadani' Emperor Harshvardhan, but why is the same speed not being shown for administrative management?" Yadav questioned, emphasizing the local community's growing frustration. Furthermore, Yadav has criticized the handling of local issues, including transportation and the freedom of movement around the Mahakumbh area, suggesting that "alternative arrangements" should be made to mitigate these concerns.
Yadav's willingness to support the government in enhancing Mahakumbh's preparations stems from a desire to see the event succeed without compromising Prayagraj's vibrancy. "We want the Mahakumbh to go on and Prayagraj to also remain dynamic," he stated, highlighting the importance of swift action from the local administration to bridge the existing gaps.
"This is the truth of preparations for 'Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025' under the BJP government! At least the work of the police department should have been completed long ago because the management of the security circle does not wait for the last day," Yadav remarked, calling attention to the procrastination in security planning. He further hinted at the political motivations of the BJP, suggesting that they might be too preoccupied with financial gain and election strategies to adequately prepare for the Mahakumbh. "If the government-administration has failed in the preparations for the Mahakumbh, then we propose to send our true and dedicated workers to help because the BJP people would be busy earning money or in election planning," Yadav offered, showcasing a readiness to step in where the government has allegedly faltered.
In conclusion, Akhilesh Yadav's critique and offer of assistance underscore concerns about the Uttar Pradesh government's management of the forthcoming Mahakumbh Mela. His call for immediate action aims not only to ensure the event's success but also to prioritize the well-being and needs of the local population in Prayagraj. As the Mahakumbh draws near, the effectiveness of the government's response to these challenges remains to be seen.
