Serial killer on Assam trains: Two women murdered in similar fashion
Guwahati, July 12: Two women were found murdered in the toilets of trains plying on the same railway route in Assam over the last 36 hours. The police suspect that it may be the work of a serial killer considering the modus operandi was similar.

The first incident involved the killing of a 21 year old Assam Agricultural University student in which she was found strangled in the toilet of a compartment reserved for differently abled people on the New Tinsukia-Rangiya Express on Tuesday morning. Her body was found barely 20 minutes after she boarded the train from Sivasagar.
The second incident occurred the very next day. The body of a 48 year old woman was recovered from the toilet of a compartment, again reserved for differently abled people.
This incident occurred on the Awadh-Assam Express at Jorhat's Mariani junction. The victim, who hailed from Bihar had boarded the train from from Dibrughar in upper Assam.
The police found that in both cases, a gamosa ( traditional Assam handwoven towel) was found at the crime scene.
A special team has been constituted to probe the killings.
