The Modi government has a long list of achievements to flaunt and celebrate as it completed four years in office. Over the past four years of the NDA government, Modi has implemented several welfare schemes in key areas such as financial inclusion, affordable housing, cooking fuel, electrification and transportation connectivity. Nearly 80 percent of Indian households have no access to clean cooking gas, a big jump from 56 percent three years ago, as state-run oil firms are enrolling new customers at a record pace to meet the target set by the Modi government.

4 years of Modi Sarkar: How India aims to increase LPG usage to cover 80 per cent households

Let's have a look at its key achievements:

PAHAL - Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL) Consumers Scheme

The world's largest cash subsidy under the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme was re-launched by the Union Government in November 2014 in 54 districts and was extended all over the country with effect from January 1, 2015. The scheme was launched for the consumers of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The modified scheme is referred to as Pratyaksh Hanstantarit Labh or PAHAL DBTL (Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG).

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Another progress done by the Modi government is that of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, under which 10 crore LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections, including 4 crore free ones, to poor women, were given in the last four years, compared to 13 crore in six decades since Independence.

Under this Yojana, the government provides a subsidy of Rs 1,600 to state-owned fuel retailers for every free LPG gas connection that they install in poor rural households without one. This subsidy is intended to cover the security fee for the cylinder and the fitting charges. The beneficiary has to buy her own cooking stove and refills.

Subsidy on Kerosene and LPG

The Oil Marketing Companies are currently incurring under-recovery of Rs 13.56 per litre on PDS Kerosene and the consumer is being provided cash compensation of Rs.195.91 per cylinder under DBTL.

Urja Ganga Gas Pipeline Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Rs 129.4 billion Urja Ganga gas pipeline project is now being extended to North East adding another 750-km up to Guwahati and later to all the state capitals of the region. State-owned gas utility GAIL India Ltd said that the first phase of the 2,655-km gas pipeline from Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh to West Bengal and Odisha will be completed before the scheduled target of December 2018.

Promoted cashless transactions

In a bid to push digital payments, the Narendra Modi government introduced cashless transactions. There has been a significant expansion of digital payment infrastructure at retail outlets. As on 20.03.2018, 89104 POS terminals and 82809 e-wallet facility have been provided at 51610 (95%) petrol pumps across the country, these Outlets cover more than 95% of sales.

National Data Repository

The government had launched India's maiden National Data Repository (NDR) that will assimilate, preserve and upkeep country's vast sedimentary data for future use in oil and gas exploration and production. The Petroleum Minister had said that the launch of NDR and OALP is a historic occasion for India's E&P Sector 22 Cabinet decisions taken in last 3 years in E&P.

Four years ago on May 26, 2014, only one goal was fixed by the Modi govt which was to ensure the country's development. The govt has been working on its 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' since then and now with four years gone by, the Ministers are taking the message of 'Saaf Niyat, Sahi Vikas' to the people.
