Fact Check: Is BJP Govt Giving Free Air Conditioners Under New Scheme 'PM Modi AC Yojana 2025'?

Several parts of the country is facing the summer heat and the demand for air conditioners has gone up.

Is The BJP Government Giving Free Air Conditioners?

As per the reports, the demand for the AC is projected to rise by 20% to 12-13 million units. However, there are rumours doing rounds that the Narendra Modi government is giving free Air Conditioner to the people under PM Modi AC Yojana 2025'.

As per the claims doing rounds, the Government will provide free 5-star air conditioners and 1.5 crore ACs have are ready to be delivered.

Fact Checking The Claims

However, we did a Google search to check whether the government has made any such announcement. And there are some reports which claim that the government is mulling to lure the people to replace their old AC with new AC with new 5-star models.

The Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is planning to come up with this scheme as the majority of the Indian houses have ACs with 3 star ratings. The new scheme could help people bring down electricity bulls by annually Rs 6300.

People might be given the opportunity to exchange their old ACs with certified recyclers. The Centre was also considering to give rebates on free 5-star air conditioners and 1.5 crore ACs, the reports said.

However, the PIB Fact Check unit of the centre has denied the reports calling it "fake.: In a post on X, the government stated: "A post being widely shared on social media claims that under a new scheme 'PM Modi AC Yojana 2025', the Government will provide free 5-star air conditioners and 1.5 crore ACs have already been prepared."

This claim is #FAKE and no such scheme providing free 5-star air conditioners have been announced by the Union Government, the post read.
