President Droupadi Murmu also shared her condolences, writing, "The passing of Shri Shyam Benegal marks the end of a glorious chapter of Indian cinema and television. His extraordinary contribution was recognised in the form of numerous awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan. My condolences to the members of his family and his countless admirers."

A Tribute from Maharashtra CM and Other Leaders

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow at the filmmaker's death. He described Benegal's contribution to Indian cinema as invaluable, highlighting his pioneering works such as Ankur, Manthan, Mandi, and Junoon. He remarked that Benegal's films made Indian cinema known internationally and changed the landscape of Indian filmmaking with his unique narrative style.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also paid homage, writing, "Saddened by the demise of our iconic filmmaker Shyam Benegal. A pillar of Indian parallel cinema, he was loved and admired by all connoisseurs. My condolences to his family, friends, and followers."
