Hansika Motwani Moves Bombay HC To Quash Sister-in-Law’s FIR, Alleges It’s Driven By Personal Vendetta

Actor Hansika Motwani and her mother, Jyoti Motwani, have approached the Bombay High Court seeking the quashing of an FIR filed against them by television actor Muskan Nancy James. The FIR, which includes charges under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), alleges cruelty, domestic violence, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.

Muskan, who married Hansika's brother Prashant Motwani in 2020 and separated from him in 2022, had named her husband, mother-in-law, and Hansika in the complaint. The High Court, comprising Justices Sarang Kotwal and SM Modak, has issued a notice and scheduled a hearing for July 3, as reported by Times Now.

According to Hansika's petition, the FIR is "malicious" and was filed in retaliation after she demanded repayment of ₹27 lakh loaned to Prashant and Muskan for their wedding expenses. Hansika claimed the money was used to pay wedding planners and has not yet been returned. She argued that the allegations are "baseless, exaggerated, and arise from domestic issues being misrepresented as criminal conduct."

Hansika further stated that she had no direct involvement in her brother's marital problems and believes she was named in the FIR simply because of her familial connection. The petition also claims that the FIR is being used as a tool to pressure her and her family into a financial settlement amid the ongoing divorce proceedings between Prashant and Muskan. In February, both Hansika and Jyoti were granted anticipatory bail by a Mumbai Sessions Court. They are now requesting that the FIR be quashed, asserting that the criminal complaint is being misused in the context of a matrimonial dispute.
