Tamil Nadu Weather: Chennai, Other Dists To Get Widespread Rains For Next 2 Days

Several parts of Tamil Nadu including Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Virudhunagar districts were affected by rains and Thunderstorms on Tuesday.

Isolated rainfall is being observed in certain parts of the Vellore district in North Tamil Nadu. So far steering has been weak, later in the night more places could see rains closer to Chennai, as per a weather blogger.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the rainfall is anticipated to progressively diminish, while the temperature is projected to rise above the usual levels.

"Under the influence of a north-south trough runs from south interior Karnataka to Comorin area across interior Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over north Tamil Nadu and adjoining Rayalaseema at 1.5 km above mean sea level. So, heavy rain is likely to occur over Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, and Madurai districts of Tamil Nadu for the next 24 hours," DTNext quoted P Senthamarai Kannan, director of the area cyclone center, RMC, as saying.

Over the next 48 hours, it is anticipated that the weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam will register temperatures of approximately 36 degrees Celsius.

For the next few days, Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John has predicted widespread rain for Chennai and other districts of Tamil Nadu including the delta, and interior districts - Madurai, Salem, Trichy, and Thanjavur.

As per the RMC rainfall data, Ice House in Chennai district recorded 4 cm in the last 24 hours and it is followed by Tiruvannamalai (3 cm), and Salem, Erode, Chengalpattu, and TVK Nagar in Chennai received 2 cm rainfall each, the report said.
