Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: 19 Districts On Yellow Alert, Chennai To Get Rains For Next 2 Days

Several parts of Tamil Nadu experienced heavy rains on Wednesday, with Pudukottai and Chembarambakkam in Kancheepuram district receiving 9 cm of rainfall.

Chembarambakkam (Kancheepuram) and Pandalur (The Nilgiris) recorded 8 cm of rain in the last 24 hours.

Other areas that received significant rainfall include Perungalur (Pudukkottai), Palacode ARG (Dharmapuri), Palacode (Dharmapuri), Mimisal (Pudukkottai), Ponneri (Tiruvallur), Parangipettai (Cuddalore), KRP Dam (Krishnagiri), Tirumangalam (Madurai), and Singampunari (Sivagangai), each with 7 cm of rain.

Yellow Alert

The Regional Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 19 districts. In its daily bulletin, the weather agency said, "Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Tirupattur; ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur,Theni and Dindigul districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry."

The Meteorological Department issues a Yellow Alert to warn people of potential heavy rain, storms, floods, or other natural calamities. This alert indicates a possibility of heavy rainfall ranging from 7.5 to 15 mm.

The RMC has issued yellow alert for Friday for these districts: Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri; ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul and Theni districts.

Chennai Rains
As per the weather agency, Chennai received 6 cms rains on Wednesday. The RMC has predicted light to moderate rains with thunderstorm and lighting for the next two days.

Temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal were near normal to slightly above normal. The highest maximum temperature was 38.2°C, recorded at Karur.

Maximum temperatures ranged as follows:

  • 33-38°C in the plains of Interior Tamil Nadu
  • 34-37°C in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal
  • 30-35°C in South Coastal Tamil Nadu
  • 20-27°C in the hilly areas

In Chennai:

  • Chennai (MBK) recorded a normal maximum temperature of 37.4°C (-0.6°C)
  • Chennai (NBK) recorded a normal maximum temperature of 36.3°C (-1.2°C)
