Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Urges PM Modi To Uninstall Hindi From Union Govt Offices In State

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticised the Union government for imposing Hindi on Tamil Nadu, accusing it of pressuring the state to adopt the three-language formula under the National Education Policy 2020.

He warned that both the DMK and Tamil Nadu are ready to resist this imposition. The conflict intensified after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that states not adhering to NEP would miss out on Samagra Shiksha funds.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin

CM MK Stalin has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to Tamil, highlighting a disparity in funding between Tamil and Sanskrit. Stalin pointed out that while Tamil received Rs 167 crore, Sanskrit universities were allocated Rs 2,435 crore from 2014 to 2023. He urged the Prime Minister to make Tamil an official language alongside Hindi.

Language and Cultural Concerns

The Chief Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with Sanskrit-Hindi names given to trains in Tamil Nadu. He urged a return to naming them in Tamil, suggesting names like Chemmozhi and Vaigai instead of Antyodaya and Vande Bharat. Stalin called for an end to 'Hindi Pakhwadas' in the state, which he deemed a waste of taxpayers' money.

In his series of letters to DMK members, Stalin framed the upcoming 2026 assembly elections as a contest between Tamil Nadu and the Centre. He demanded that Hindi be removed from Union government offices in Tamil Nadu and reiterated his call for more substantial actions supporting Tamil culture.

Political Reactions

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai responded by defending Modi's efforts to promote Tamil culture, citing Sengol in Parliament as evidence. He questioned why DMK didn't protest when less funding was allocated to Tamil during UPA-I and UPA-II governments, where DMK was involved. Annamalai accused Stalin of being blinded by hatred.

Stalin also criticised attempts by the BJP-led government to saffronise Thiruvalluvar, a revered saint-poet. He urged declaring Thirukkural as India's 'National Book' and dismissed quoting its couplets during budget speeches as insufficient. "Love for Tamil is proven through deeds, not deception," he asserted.
