Chennai Weather Alert: Sudden Rain In TN Capital Gives Relief From Scorching Temperatures

Chennaities have got some relief from the heat after parts of the state capital witnessed rains on Thursday.

Netizens on social media are claiming that it is raining in Koyambedu, Arumbakkam, Kolathur-Villivakkam stretch and a few other areas.

As per the weather tracker, Raja Ramasamy, Tambaram-Chengalpattu region are witnessing rain.

The Regional Meteorological Department (RMD) in its bulletin had said that the skies are expected to be partly cloudy with maximum temperatures ranging from 36-37°C and minimum temperatures around 28-29°C.

Another weather blogger of R Pradeep John of Tamil Nadu Weatherman predicted heavy rains in some places after mid May.

"Peak May Kathri Veyil, the sight of clouds moving from sea side. Perungalathur got very good rains in Tambaram belt. Kollidam, Nannilam, Tiruvarur, Kalpakkam, Ramanathapuram all near coast getting rains. Mid May things will change to widespread heavy rains," he said in a post on X.

The Regional Meteorological Department (RMD) forecasts light to moderate rain at a few locations, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated spots across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Furthermore, heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Virudhunagar.

In recent weeks, numerous districts in Tamil Nadu have been grappling with scorching temperatures, with at least 10 districts soaring beyond 40.0°C. Notably, places such as Karur, Erode, and Vellore, alongside Madurai, have recorded exceptionally high temperatures.
