Chennai bypass accident claims 1 life, injures 22
Chennai, Aug 10: In an accident in Chennai bypass, an overcrowded bus killed a bike rider and injured all of its passengers as it veered from its route and jumped the median while overtaking a truck. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus of Villupuram division left for Kallakurichi from CMBT with 15 passengers at 3 pm.
Enroute, the driver picked up more passengers, exceeding the bus's capacity. Police believes that while this could be one of the reasons for the accident, the other factors were heavy rains and overspeeding.

While overtaking a lorry, the bus driver lost control and veered off his lane, climbed the meridian and entered the opposite lane and ran over 35-year old Balamurugan. The bus crashed into the parapet and plunged into the roadside pit built as a storm water drain.
