Rs 5 crore: Karnataka's cost to conduct Jaya DA case

Karnataka has borne all the expenses towards the disproportionate assets case since 2003.

Bengaluru, Feb 16: 1With the two-decade-old disproportionate assets case finally coming to an end, Karnataka has decided to seek a reimbursement from Tamil Nadu. The case was transferred to Karnataka by the Supreme Court as it felt a fair trial may not be accorded in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka has borne all the expenses towards this case since 2003, these include setting up a court hall, paying the translators, judges salaries, lawyers fee etc.

Rs 5 cr conducting Jaya's DA case

Till 2015, the cost incurred by Karnataka was Rs 5 crore. However, that cost would have gone up slightly since the appeal in the Supreme Court was not filed by then. While Rs 5 crore would be the cost of litigation, there is other expenditure such as law and order, logistics etc.

Karnataka's Law Minister T B Jayachandra says that the cost is being calculated. "We have spent a huge amount and will write to the TN government to reimburse that amount," he says.

Once the exact cost is calculated, Karnataka would write to the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu for reimbursement. Tamil Nadu, as per the Supreme Court order would have to reimburse this amount to Karnataka.
