Karnataka Weather Update: Bengaluru May See Rains As Low Pressure System Hits Chennai Coast
The ongoing rains across southern India has been unusually intense this season, with continuous heavy showers causing damage to crops, particularly for farmers. While the monsoon season has officially ended, a fresh bout of heavy rainfall is on the horizon, with forecasts predicting more downpours in the next 24 hours.
Cyclonic circulation and Weather Warning

The farming community is already grappling with the aftermath of heavy rains, which have led to substantial crop losses. Now, with the forecast of another round of severe weather, anxiety is building among farmers. A weather anomaly in the southwest Bay of Bengal has given rise to a cyclone, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region over the next two days.
Meteorologists have issued a warning for widespread rain in southern India, particularly along the Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coastlines, as the cyclonic circulation moves across the area. Local authorities have prepared for the possibility of even more rainfall, which could affect agricultural activities.
Heavy rains expected in Several Districts in Karnataka
The districts likely to experience the brunt of the rain include Bengaluru city, Bengaluru rural, Tumakuru, Kolar, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and coastal regions. In Bengaluru, cloudy conditions will persist for the next 24 hours, with heavy rain anticipated after November 12.
According to weather enthusiasts, Karnataka can expect an exciting week ahead, as November has been relatively calm so far. The Bay of Bengal (BOB) and the Arabian Sea are set to become active this week, signaling the start of the much-awaited active phase of the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) over North Tamil Nadu (NTN).
By mid-week, a circulation is forecast to form in the Arabian Sea, moving parallel to North Kerala and South Canara. This will likely bring moisture to the state's interior regions. There is a strong likelihood of 2-3 days of cloudy weather, with light rain or drizzle expected in areas such as SIK, Kodagu, Udupi-DK Ghats, and Chikkamagaluru.
Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Expected in South Andhra Pradesh and Chennai
Rain bands from the coast of North Tamil Nadu (NTN) and South Andhra Pradesh (SAP) are slowly consolidating, with the first signs of rainfall expected to reach South AP by the afternoon or evening. The weather system, which is strengthening off the coast, is likely to bring significant rainfall and strong gusty winds in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation in the southwest Bay of Bengal is consolidating into a Low-Pressure Area (LPA), and the influence of an extending trough in the Bay is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains. Rains are likely to begin in South Andhra Pradesh (AP) and North Tamil Nadu (TN) from today. In the afternoon, the South AP coast will start receiving moderate to heavy rainfall, which will extend into North TN (including Chennai and KTCC) by evening. The best time to experience significant rainfall will be during the night and early morning hours.
