Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Braces for More Rain, Check Forecast For This Weekend

Many parts of Bengaluru are expected to receive rainfall on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued a yellow alert for the city until May 13.

A yellow alert signifies heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds. The short-term forecast indicates that the rainfall, expected on Thursday and Friday, could lead to thunderstorms with lightning, primarily in the evening or at night. Residents should be prepared for strong winds and localised flooding.

The recent downpours have highlighted the vulnerability of Bengaluru's urban infrastructure. Over 100 trees were uprooted, streets transformed into temporary rivers, and power outages plagued numerous neighborhoods. One software professional was reportedly injured by a falling tree earlier this week.

These heavy rains, while welcome after a dry April, pose challenges. The city's older trees, often neglected, struggle to withstand such strong winds. Additionally, drainage systems can become overwhelmed, leading to flooding.

The IMD predicts Bengaluru will receive close to its average rainfall of 128.7 mm for May, offering some relief after a parched April. However, residents are advised to stay cautious during this period and follow advisories from local authorities.
