HSRP Registration Karnataka: Will The Deadline To Replace Old Number Plates Be Extended Again?
The last date to replace your old number plates with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) is nearing, the vehicle owners in Karnataka are demanding the authorities for an extension of the deadline.
Many people are encountering obstacles in scheduling High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) appointments due to server slowdowns and various technical glitches. The overwhelming demand to comply with the deadline has resulted in a significant number of vehicle owners grappling to secure appointments, prompting requests for an extension of one month to address the backlog.

Will the government extend the deadline?
Sources from the transport department informed The New Indian Express that it is inevitable to extend the date again. "We don't have the exact number of vehicles that were registered before April 2019. Our estimation is that more than 1.5 crore vehicles have to get HSRP," Transport Commissioner Yogeesh said.
As per the report, a total of 2 crore vehicles were registered before April 1, 2019 out of which only 10 lakh vehicles have replaced the number plates.
People's Concern
Mahendra, originally from Madikeri but now living in Bengaluru's Jayanagara area, opened up on the challenges of meeting the deadline. "I have a Honda Activa. While the vehicle is in Kodagu, I am working in Bengaluru. There are no automobile manufacturers in the town. Moreover, my family members are out of town. Only 7 days left for HSRP booking. What to do in such a case? At the very least, if the period is extended to 15 days, it would be beneficial," Udayavani quoted him as saying.
Likewise, Vinay opened up on his confusion over the process and sought clarity from the transport department.
"I have a Hero Honda Splendor. Now that the OEM company has split, who should we turn to? There is no clarity about this. There are many such confusions. There is a need for the transport department officials to pay attention to this too," Vinay added.
It may be recalled that the Karnataka government extended the deadline by three months to February 17 in November 2023.
