Bengaluru Weather: With 307.9 mm Rainfall, City Logs Wettest May Since Records Began

Bengaluru has recorded its highest-ever rainfall in the month of May, making this the wettest May in the city's history. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city received a cumulative rainfall of 307.9 mm as of Monday morning, May 26, breaking the previous record set just last year.

In May 2023, Bengaluru had recorded 305.4 mm of rainfall-then the highest ever for the month. This year's rainfall has now surpassed that figure, setting a new benchmark. The IMD stated that the latest figure was recorded between May 1 and 11:30 am on May 26.

Prior to these recent years, the other notable high-rainfall Mays included May 2022 with 270.4 mm, May 2017 with 241.9 mm, and May 2018 with 239.8 mm-showing a clear trend of wetter pre-monsoon seasons in recent times.

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast that Bengaluru is likely to continue experiencing light to moderate showers till May 31. For the next 48 hours, the department has predicted generally cloudy skies accompanied by sustained winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph.

In terms of temperatures, the city is expected to remain relatively cool. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 26 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be around 20 degrees Celsius.

With days still remaining in the month, there's a possibility that the rainfall total may rise even further, setting an even higher record for future comparisons.
