Avoid Drinking Tea or Coffee in Paper Cups – Here's Why
If you often enjoy your favorite tea or coffee in a paper cup, it's time to stop. While sipping a hot beverage may bring comfort, drinking tea or coffee from paper cups can pose significant health risks. A recent study by the Food Safety Department revealed that paper cups contain harmful substances, including carcinogens.
Laboratory tests on paper cups showed that their use could contribute to cancer.

Around 20% of the material in paper cups is plastic. When hot beverages are poured into these cups, the heat causes the plastic to melt. If consumed, the melted plastic can significantly increase the risk of cancer. As a result, the Health Department has issued guidelines recommending the use of plastic-free cups, said Srinivas of the Food Safety Department.
Street vendors are already addressing this issue. According to Rangaswamy, state president of the Street Vendors Association, the use of plastic-lined paper cups has reduced by 90% as vendors become more aware of their dangers.
To protect your health, avoid drinking hot tea or coffee from paper cups. Instead, consider carrying a reusable cup from home. This simple change can safeguard your health and benefit the environment.
