TN Govt to sell DAP fertiliser through TANFED from July

Chennai, Jun 27: After initiating action against hoarding and black marketing of DAP fertiliser, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to sell it through the State-owned TANFED from July one to meet the requirements of delta farmers.

An official statement here said Collectors of delta districts, after conducting raids in companies, premises of stockists, wholesalers and retail dealers, unearthed huge stocks of DAP.

In Theni district, a company was transporting 150 tonnes of DAP to Kerala clandestinely and the same was seized. Hoarding in 12 unauthorised places have also been unearthed, the statement said.

In all, 1,334 MT of DAP stock had been frozen in the operation and show cause notices for cancellation of license had been issued in 112 cases, the statement added.

After reviewing the situation with Coromandel Fertilisers, Zuari Industries, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers, IFFCO and India Potash, it was found that 34,940 MT of DAP was available with the wholesalers and retailers, which was more than the current requirement of 30,000 MT.

The companies have been advised to liquidate the stock meant for June by July four, failing which they would be seized by the Collectors and handed over to the TANFED to be made available to the farmers.

The Collectors were advised to constitute a vigilance cell and form special teams to avoid unauthorised transfer of stocks to the neighbouring States.
