Rail Budget likely to focus on safety and fund generation

New Delhi, Mar 14: Union Railway Ministry Dinesh Trivedi has presented his maiden Rail Budget for 2012-13 in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Mar 14.

The main focus of the budget will be on fund generation as railways has been facing massive financial crisis since last few months.

Budget will likely to sanction 900-odd works to consolidate its existing infrastructure. Another 500-odd similar works, proposed by the zonal railways, are unlikely to make it to the budget for want of funds.

Moreover, safety is going to be a hallmark of Trivedi’s budget. Key routes of 19,000 km (trunk routes like Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Howrah, etc) are expected to see allocation in terms of increasing the axle load so that heavier weights can be carried faster.
